FootFall Guide for Providers
This page covers some basics around the concept of FootFall, as well as a getting started guide for fitness providers.
Why Join FootFall?
A Better Way to Be Discovered
FootFall helps people discover local fitness, sport, and activity experiences genuinely suited to them — and helps providers reach the right audience without changing how they already run their business.
FootFall isn’t a booking marketplace or a discount site. Instead, it focuses on visibility and discovery, giving your business a modern, easy-to-understand platform that works as an advert for what you offer.
What is FootFall?
FootFall is a discovery platform for:
- Fitness venues (gyms and studios)
- Classes
- Personal Trainers
- Sports clubs
Users can browse by:
- Location
- Provider type
- Activity
- Experience level
- Vibes (the feel of an activity or venue — not just what it is, for example energetic or inclusive)
- Price
- Provider-specific filters (such as class type or Personal Trainer specialisms)
When users find something they like, they’re sent directly to your website or preferred contact method to learn more or book.
Why FootFall Works
People don’t always know exactly what they’re looking for.
FootFall’s browsing-first approach means a tennis club might appear alongside a Pilates class — opening your listing up to new audiences who may never have searched for you directly.
FootFall encourages exploration across:
- Different provider types
- New activities
- Unique and niche offerings
This helps you reach people who are open to trying something new, not just those already searching by name.
You’re Seen by the Right People
Rather than competing in a crowded, one-size-fits-all list, users find you because:
- Your offering matches their confidence level
- Your vibe matches what they’re looking for
- Your experience feels right for them
The result is higher-quality enquiries and better-aligned customers.
Creating a FootFall Listing
Getting started on FootFall is quick and straightforward. Most providers can create a complete listing in under 15 minutes.
Below is some key guidance to help you make the most of your listing.
Photos Matter
Great photos are a vital part of an effective listing.
To maintain quality across the platform, FootFall requires:
- Good-resolution images
- Photos that accurately represent your venue or activity
Stock images or poor-quality photos will be rejected. This helps ensure users trust every listing they view — even if it’s not right for them.
As part of the initial rollout across Gravesham, we will be arranging free professional photography for providers to help build a strong, high-quality collection of local sports and fitness listings.
The “Drop-in” Tag
The Drop-in tag is used for activities that can be accessed without a membership commitment — a highly valued feature for many users.
FootFall also makes it easy to highlight the value of memberships by showing the best-value per-class cost when sessions are accessed via a monthly subscription.
The “Vibes” Tag
Vibes use short, descriptive mood words to explain what someone new can expect from a venue or activity.
Each vibe includes a hover-over description to give extra context. This helps users quickly understand whether something feels right for them and connects the right people with the right listings.
Provider Types on FootFall
Below is more detail on how listings work for each provider type.
Gyms & Studios
Gyms and studios sit under the Fitness Venue category.
When creating your account, you can upload a profile picture (usually your logo) via your profile settings page. This helps promote your brand across FootFall as users browse.
Your venue acts as a parent listing, which can link to:
- Personal Trainers
- Classes run at your venue
This means your gym or studio can be discovered through any linked PT or class — and vice versa.
Personal Trainers within Gyms
PTs working within gyms are listed as employed PTs.
- Skills, qualifications, and specialisms can be added and filtered by users
- Trainers are linked to the gym and booked as part of the gym’s services
In search results, users can browse both employed and freelance PTs together, making it easier to compare options.
Studio or Gym Classes
Classes run by gyms or studios are listed as in-house classes under the venue.
Listings show whether:
- The class is available on a drop-in basis
- A gym or studio membership is required
FootFall does not currently offer booking functionality. Users are directed to your existing website or social channels.
Timetables support repeating weekly schedules, and changes can be made quickly — usually in just a minute or two. Your class schedule is displayed up to two weeks in advance on your class's listing page.
Independent Class Providers
Independent providers are individuals or organisations that:
- Run sessions outside of a dedicated fitness venue
- Do not fall under the Sports Club category
When creating your account, you can add:
- Profile picture (usually a logo)
- Bio
- Social links
This information is visible to users visiting your page.
Flex Space Classes
Independent providers can create as many Flex Space Classes as needed.
Each class:
- Uses a single address per listing
- Links directly to your own booking channels
- Supports repeating weekly timetables
Listings can be updated quickly and easily at any time.
Personal Trainers (Freelance)
Independent PTs start by creating an Freelance Personal Trainer account, then add:
- A Personal Trainer listing
- Any classes they run
Skills, qualifications, typical operating times, and specialisms are filterable, and PTs appear alongside employed trainers in search results.
Listings require:
- At least a postcode
- Photos
- Title and description
All details can be updated at any time.
Sports Clubs
Sports Clubs fall into six categories:
- Team Sports
- Individual & Racket Sports
- Endurance, Outdoor & Adventure
- Equestrian & Specialist Sports
- Combat & Martial Arts
- Dance, Gymnastics & Performing Arts
The listing process guides you through three tabs:
- Sport type
- Facilities and amenities
- Competitive levels and club features
Each club requires a searchable home address. If you don’t have a permanent clubhouse, individual sessions or classes can be listed at their specific venues.
Example:
A karate academy operating across multiple locations can create one Sports Club listing and add separate class listings for each venue.
If fixed pricing isn’t available, listings can display “Message to join” (by setting the price to 0) to encourage direct contact.
Sports Club Classes
Once your Sports Club venue page is live, you can create an unlimited number of classes or training sessions.
Each class:
- Is linked to a single location
- Includes full session details and timetable
- Links directly to your own booking channels
Repeating schedules can be set, and updates can be made whenever needed.
